Ya, that's true, but it's also more complicated to incorporate into a simple script. It's hardly pointless either since it DOES the job cleanly enough.

Unlikely for the few seconds it takes to copy off the archived logs to another directory and delete. If transactions may be expected to be so high as to go through 3 (at least) online redologs, you shouldn't be scheduling a regular backup at that time.
