Functional Index on Oracle in NT

Hi , Does anyone has any ideas on function index on Oracle running
in NT ? I have created one function index on my database but it is
not working. My query still not make use of the index to scan. My
Oracle version is Oracle 8.1.7. Is there anything i need to set to
make it work ?
