Hi

We have several clients out of my country and outs is a very large database application that runs on Oracle (Version 8).

Very often our clients come and say "This screen is slow" or "Whole module suddenly becomes slow". It takes 10 minutes to come up and so on. We simply dont know what to do in these cases. If we ask them for a tkprofed trace file they take 2 days. They get very panicky when we ask them to do something with the database. If we ask them to execute one Sql, they take several days. If they sql has a bind variable and we ask them to substitute the value of the bind, they cannot understand :-(.
If we ask them for something database related, they usually take long time since i assume they wait for their DBA to come back.

We cannot blame them . But is there very some simple "Step By Step" process that we can ask them to follow to tune Oracle?. Check this parameter. Check this . Check that. This parameter may be low. I want something on the line of "If this parameter is below this then it may be increased".

I know how frustrating it must be for you guys to read this post :-(.

If i can get hold of some simple thing, i can refine it a bit . Its impossible to ask them to read the manuals or something like that. We cannot acceess their database because of cost.

Hope for some hints on this. Received on Wed Oct 31 2001 - 08:09:29 CST
