A quote from an email that Oracle recently sent me:

"On September 15, 2001, Oracle announced plans to retire the Oracle Certifications for Release 8 Database Administrators and Database Operators. In accordance with our stated retirement policy, we are hereby giving six months advance notice of Oracle's intention to retire these certification tracks. Therefore, as of March 31, 2002, the core certification exams for both of these OCP paths will no longer be available. "

If you think that you can finish the track by March 31 of next year, by all means go for it.

HTH,
Simon
