Not exactly. There are quite a few younger books on PL/SQL.

not at all. In fact, quite the opposite. PL/SQL in 9i can now be compiled and runs very, very fast. Also, there are heaps of new functionality in both 8, 8i and 9i that is ONLY available if you use PL/SQL. How's that for "deprecated"? :-)

It never hurts to know more than one way to crack an egg, but you wouldn't be going too far wrong by learning PL/SQL, both basic and advanced. Check out the Feuerstein books and add-ons.
