Problems running 8.1.7 universal installer on Win 2k server

I have just set up (and I use the term loosely as I am no expert) a win 2k server box and I am now trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on it, but it will not run the install program.

When the CD is put in it will bring up the autorun which offers me the choice of looking at the docs or running the install. I can browse the CD, I can look at the docs, but whenever I try to run the install I get the hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing.

I have also tried to run the setup.exe straight from the CD with the same result.

On task manager I can see the processes kick off and the cpu time scoot up and then everything returns to the previous values. It is as if the program runs, finds something it does like, so exits.

I've had a look for log files but it doesn't create any so I have no indication what the problem might be.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards
