I am trying to setup Generic Connectivity to connect Oracle 8i (8.1.6)
to SQL Server. It is needed for something simple, and as such, does
not seem to justify purchasing a Transparent Gateway client.
In the documentation for "Managing Heterogeneous Services Using
Generic Connectivity", under the subtitle "Configuring Generic
Connectivity Agents"
<URL:http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/server.817/a76960/hs_genco.htm#5394>,
three sample files are listed, I.E. initodbc.ora, initolesql.ora, and
initolefs.ora. "The sample files are stored in the /admin directory
for that particular agent, in the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/hs path."
The system does not have an "hs" directory in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/, and a "find" shows that "initodbc.ora" does not exist. The host OS is Linux.
Is there something that needs to be installed to get these files, or are Heterogeneous Services not availible on the Linux platform?
