If you want to be _really_ secure of your encryption key, you might want
to consider using a special hardware to protect them.
The hardware stores the encryption keys and nobody can get them out of
the box (of course it provides key recovery or duplication procedure in
an extreme way), besides,
it also provides encryption and decryption services to the user
application. AFAIK, it is the safest and applicable way to do
encryption.
the IBM 4758 cryptocard, for example, is one of those products. You may do some research on their website and get more detailed information about that.
Again, only if you want to have a _real_ secured encryption environment.
