dbms_snapshot.refresh ORA-07445 error

Some of our materialized view get the following error during the refresh:

Errors in file /hrds_log/udump/ora_28477_hrds.trc: ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [10] [2139089248] [6545408] [1696] ]

The screen shows a ORA-03113(end of communication channel) but the alert log has the error above. Our Oracle instance is version 8.1.6.3.0 running on an HP N-Class server. We recently upgraded from 8.1.6.0.0 because the 8.1.6.3.0 was supposed to resolve this problem. Has anyone experienced this problem before and found a successful resolution?
