Be aware of changing database name in this way if you are using Recovery Manager (RMAN) for your backups.

I just read that RMAN dont use database name to distinct two databases, instead it uses a db_id and db_key when you register the database in RMAN.

So if you change the database name, RMAN will think it is the same database when you try to register it.

The "workaround" will be to have the new database in a different Recovery Catalog Schema.
