• Always prefer RAID 10 over RAID 1 over anything else.
• Use RAW devices only if you really must (OPS).
• Use the internal SCSI for OS and Oracle software (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME)
• Use the 2x2 RAID for database files, redo logs ...
• Linux LVM is reliable and provides for performance if you can stripe over more than one physical partition/RAID volume. In your case it is not needed, since the RAID controller does it in hardware.

Is not necessary, since 8.1.7 on Linux is quite stable. Of course: make sure to activate automatic archiving of redo logs.
