I think the problem might be this:
oradim80 -new -sid ORCL -intpwd PASSWORD -startMODE auto -pfile initSID -maxusers 10
I'm pretty sure that you need to change the parameter to startmode instead of starttype. (I can't test this at the moment because i'm running 8i, but I think that'll do it)
