Hi Nuno,

I don't often become didactic, but I'm going to do so now (ok, so brace yourself).

You cannot create a locally managed SYSTEM tablespace in any current version of Oracle (and no, vapourware doesn't count). On this, I think even the recalcitrant are now agreed (and I'm not talking Dr Mathathir)

You also cannot create a rollback segment in locally managed tablespace unless there is one non-system rollback segment previously created in dictionary-managed tablespace in any current version of Oracle.

And there are no exceptions, caveats, or get-outs. Anyone who suggests otherwise has either (a) been hacking around in sql.bsq, or (b) hasn't got the faintest idea what they are doing or what the 'create database' command is doing for them.

Quite why I have spent a week arguing these points escapes me now. Frankly, I'm fed up with being nice about it. I was right a week ago, and I'm right now. I demonstrate it every third week a month, and it remains the case tonight.

I realise this makes me an arrogant shit, and for that I'm sorry. But when Mr Morgan finally reads his books and works out what the 'create database' syntax is all about, he will -I am sure- acknowledge his mistake(s).

If someone (read: Mr Morgan) will kindly post well-documented outputs from their scripts, v$ views and dba_ views, I will happily and readily confess my sins and acknowledge the error of my ways. I shan't be holding my breath.

(Incidentally, I appreciated your thread with Mr. Bad Pseuodonym. There is little doubt this Sydney end where the intellectual rigour resides, and it ain't with him!)

Regards
HJR
