OLE DB 8.1.7 broke my 8.1.5 server

I've just installed the OLE DB provider 8.1.7.1.0 into my (NT4) 8.1.5 server, and now the TNS listener won't start

  orannms8.dll not found

  procedure entry point kghsstdrv not located in orageneric8.dll

From the "installed products" option in the installer, it seems confused about whether Net8 8.1.5 or 8.1.7 is installed.

I'd just reinstall the whole lot except I want to be sure I can plug my 250MB 'orcl' database back in.

I don't suppose it's as simple as:

  back up the directories within ORADATA

  uninstall

  reinstall

  replace the ORADATA directories

  restart and hey presto...

Any suggestions will be gratefully received
