Importing Excel sheet data into ORacle8i

Hello,
I have a problem here. I am getting records of the magnitude of thousands in excel format.
I want to import this data into Oracle 8i database at a partcular time everyday. Is there any way that can be done? There are two points to the question
1. How do I import the excel data into Oracle 8i? 2. How do I automate the process

The Oracle 8i database is being hosted on Sun Solaris Help is welcome
