The strait answer is backup your control file to trace and edit it. The better answer is find documentation on how to do this as it is not fun if you screw up and you will benefit from having clear step by step documentation in front of you (that said, it isn't a difficult thing, but screwing it up puts you in a recovery situation)

Also consider that if you put datafiles in a filesystem named after the instance, (ie /u02/oradata/dbname/system01.dbf) that won't change unless you mv/rename the directories in which case you will need to edit that part of the control file as well.

You could, depending on the size of the database and availability requirements, just create a new db, export/import and blow away the old one.
