Sorry to hear that you've switched from Unix to NT! I, too, needed a good scripting tool for managing our lone NT instance. Chose Perl since I could write the same basic scripts for either Perl or Unix. The Perl scripting has worked quite well for handling our cold backups (we won't discuss RMAN or OEM here). Also, using Perl's "system" function I was able to invoke the command-line version of WinZip to copy and compress the datafiles in one step.
