how to set the Checkpoint process parameter value in Oracle 8i?

In Oracle8i for Solaris X86, there is no CHECKPOINT_PROCESS parameter, so
what's the value it is supposed? How to set it?
There is no such parameter in Oracle 8i Reference, but the Oracle8i
Administrator's Guide advises to setting the paramter,it's a confusing. See
Chapter 4 :Managing Oracle processes----starting the Checkpoint process.
