Is their a replacement for libclntsh.so.1.0 in oracle 8i?

This library used to be under ORACLE_HOME/lib in Oracle 8.0.5 versions but
from Oracle 8i this library is missing. We use this for Web Objects 3.5.1 to
connect to the database. Is their an Oracle adaptor for this in 8i?
