Hi,
installation of Oracle 8i is no problem when you use SuSE 6.2 or 6.3 Linux and the Oracle-patch with installation-howto from the SuSE homepage (www.suse.de/de/produkte/software/dbms/oracle/oracle_patches/oracle8151_suse62. html). I've installed it 3 or 4 times with no problem.
The application I run under 8i and Linux is rather small (6 Tables, some 10000 rows with Context textindex). The only real problem I discovered is an ORA-3113 error (end-of-communication channel). But this comes very often and depends on the SQL-statements I use. Some statements work, others not. For example when I add or remove a column from the select-list in a select-statement the statement works or not. Very strange. After checking all statements the application works now, but it was not tested very hard yet.
