backing up a single oracle tablespace

i am working with oracle 8 server.


i want to backup a selected tablespace. so for it i changed the database
mode to archivelog mode and made the tablespace offline. but i got the error
message that i was taking the backup for the first time and i require to
create a recovery catalog.



can anyone tell me how to create a recovery catalog or any other method to
backup selected tablespace
