Oracle, Progress and rollback segments

We are trying to make our Progress application run using an Oracle database. One of the problems we run into is that the rollback segments of Oracle have to be enormous to prevent the application from crashing.

One of the reasons for this seems that the Progress application does not force any commits on the Oracle database.

Is there any way to force an Oracle commit from the Progress 4GL?

Are there any reasons that a well working Progress application (transactions, performance, everything has been streamlined) fails to work properly with the Oracle dataserver?

Thanks for any help,
