Hi,

I have installed Oracle 8i on a Solaris 2.7 Sparc Ultra 60. This is my first installation of Oracle (except personal Oracle 7) and I'm having some problems.

Particularly getting into the database with SQL*Plus. I named my ORACLE_SID user and my database user. I tried logging in and got some errors. Here is a transcript:

corp1sun% echo $ORACLE_HOME
/OraHome
corp1sun% echo $ORACLE_SID
user

Here is where I tried sqlplus:

corp1sun% sqlplus -s sys/manager
ERROR:ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress

ERROR:ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

ERROR:ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied SP2-0157: unable to CONNECT to ORACLE after 3 attempts, exiting SQL*Plus

So there are two problems: I don't have the correct user name and password and the ORA 1033. Does anyone know the default username and passwords for SYS, SYSTEM or any other important users? I haven't changed them since the intallation.

In regards to ORA 1033, here is what was running:

corp1sun% ps -ef | grep -i ora
oracle 1875 1874 0 09:55:43 pts/6 0:00 (dns helper) oracle 1625 1 0 09:22:17 ? 0:00 /OraHome/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit

Any ideas?
