Hi,

Oracle does support a failover mechanism. It is an option when you are using a cluster configuratie like Compaq OpenVMS cluster or Hewlett Packard Unix-clustering. You must buy and install the Oracle Parallel Server option on both nodes of the cluster.

You must configure a parallel server instance on both nodes and start a listener-process on each node. By letting each listener service the other listener process you can create an automatic fail over mechanism for client server. To accomplish this is quite a difficult job, but the manuals will lead you through the process.

P.S. this doesn't work on a WIN NT cluster because this is not a true cluster. Received on Sat Dec 18 1999 - 10:35:37 CST
