Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> newbie. Oracle8 install on linux
Hey all.
I've recently beeen asked to install Oracle (release 8.0.5 standard edition) on linux. Reading through the installations guide under section 'configure LINUX kernel for Oracle', it says it's required to configure the IPC parameters to accommodate the SGA. The recommended values for the parameters are listed, however, it says nothing about how you set these parameters (SHMMAX, SHMMIN, SHMMNI, SHMSEG, SEMMNS, SEMMNI, SEMMSL).
I've searched a great deal on the web, but haven't found an answer for linux particulary (apparently on Solaris you set it in /etc/system, but that is not the case with linux). I've seen another linux server running Oracle which according to sources, hasn't modified its kernel (how important is it to make these adjustments?).
Anyone who knows how to set the IPC parameters or maybe give a hint?.
Another concern is the OFA (Optimal Flexible Architecture). How important is it to create several mountpoints if Oracle is running from a server using hardware raid? (I assume the many mountpoints is a performance issue?).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Friendly Regards
