Mike,
I just fought this problem all morning. Try using the JRE 1.1.7v3 version (I used the glib version) of JRE. I can now run the installer using that. Now on with the fun!!!
FYI: I found the answer by searching for 'jre oracle' using www.deja.com to seach this newsgroup.
