Help on 'libclntsh.so'

Need to know if Oracle 7.3.4 needs 'libclntsh.so' in the
'$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib'. I'm not sure what it is, but does it have to
do with ODBC? If I need it, where can I obtain the file from?
