HELP! Backup & Recovery issue in Oracle8 enterprise edition

Hi,
I'm using the Oracle8 enterprise edition and I'm a new user of Oracle, wish you can help me with this problem.

Here's the sequence of my operation:
. Login to Enterprise manager using internal user and connected at SYSDBA
. Select the database which need to backup
. launch Backup manager
. create a channel in the backup manager
. using backup wizard, and use the channel created, use default value for
other options
. finally, after click finished and ok button of the wizard, an error msg
prompted out say "The server threw an exception".

Anyone knows this problem?? Is this backup wizard the best/easiest way to backup oracle database?? Any good documentation recommanded??

I would highly appreciated any help from you !!!
