Hi guys,
Iam new to this Oracle Back up stuff. We have an Oracle 8.x database running in Archive Mode. The ARchive logs are created in a sepearet DISK. As part of my back up strategy how often do I back up the log files. Some recommendations I have heard is that you can back up every 48 hrs depending on how much space you have one the Disk where the files are being logged. Here is my question. When I back up every 48 hrs, can i use the same tape and overwite data every 48 hrs and still be able to recover or recovery is always from the time when I first started the database, in which case we have to keep a really big stack of tapes. Iam thinking I an overwrite the files evrey 48 hrs, but I just want to confirm that is true. Also We are doing hotbackup every night. In case of a database crash, how do you recover ? Do I have to take a cold back before I stare doing hot back or is it not necessary. I konw these are lots of questions, butI think this has been done plenty of times by the experts. What is a typical backup and recovery strategy and how do you start implementing it.

Thanks
