datatype "Long" Query

Hello All,

Hopefully a simple query for you....

Our developers are using a Java application as a front end to an Oracle 7.3 database. One of the columns in a table is of type long. The problem is that they are unable to populate it anything longer than 2499 bytes, they get messages complaing about the length of the string they are trying to insert. Sorry I cant remember the error facility and number.

Any ideas?
