One of the things you should always do before you use replication in a Production environment is volume testing to ensure the performance is what you need. The information you've provided is simply not enough to tell if there is a performance issue, but if you find there is one when you volume test, one of the major improvements in replication in Oracle8 was precisely this area. Oracle8 allows parallel propagation, internalized triggers, minimized communications etc. etc.
