I like the way you think - Last night's tape backup slammed into data01.dbf. Some DBMS' put an exclusive lock on their files - so backup exec will skip the file - apparently Oracle doesn't - backup Exec recognized the file was in use, but was able to back it up anyway. I have turned off that backup and am running dbverf80 right now.

Any ideas on the query question (de-duping a very large table)?
