startup database on boot

Hi all:
Here is my problem:
We use Oracle 8.0.5, and NT4.0 with SP3. can not get database open when use NT service window method, has to startup sevmgr30, and connect internal. then startup pfile=...... last line in the log file:
ORA-1504 signalled during: alter database "vdem " mount exclusive...

Any help will be appreciate!
