Experience w/Context Option

I've been doing some testing here with Oracle Context and have found the performance to be somewhat lacking.

Here some info regarding the situation:

Sun E3500/Unix platform.
Oracle 8.0.4.00
1.2 million record table with 1 text column

Keyword searches come back in about 3-6 seconds. Is there any reason to believe it could be any faster given that Oracle is actually creating a temporary
tables behind the scenes?
