you'll get the idea
your init.ora should be something like
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$ORACLE_SID.ora
but should actually be stored in
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/pfile/init$ORACLE_SID.ora
these are pretty much defaults and OFA compliant
