Couldn't agree more but I would suspect its part of the Oracle drive for "java is the king of the universe" ...
Even without a frame buffer, as long as your server has the ability to start an X server (for example, send an xterm to a remote gui workstation) then use of a tool such as VNC will work...
(btw VNC is freeware and very impressive, sorry I can't remember the url but a net search will certainly reveal it somewhere...Virtual Network Computer)
