Hi Rana,

I am surprised that the information you are seeking isn't covered in the first chapter of your text.

Databases are used to store and make available for retrieval the information belonging to an organization.

A database may contain all of the electronic information belonging to the organization.

Since you are a student I will use a university as an example. The university database may contain accounting information, student registration information, academic records, dormitory assignment data, equipment maintenance data, computer software license data, and so on.

Modern databases can store any kind of data that can be captured in electronic form.

Regards
Jerry Gitomer
