Re: Anyone querying Oracle from a Linux box

I downloaded the Linux version of Oracle 8 from the Oracle web site. I just finished installing it. It works but I had to find a free 1gb drive (it's big once downloaded, decompressed and installed).

I am NOT an Oracle expert nor a Linux expert but I managed to get it going. The instructions from Oracle appear unclear on some points and misleading in others. I ran into a few problems because I did not install the "sample" database or the sample instance. I created a new instance from scratch. It took me a while to figure out that I had to run the catalog.sql script. Because I didn't, "desc user_tables" get me errors.

  1. Now, I want to find the best way to get Apache to talk to Oracle8. Anyone?
  2. I have also problems running the Entreprise Manager that came with Windows on the Linux Oracle. Dunno what the problem is but EM complains with the following error: "VOC-00111: Oracle Daemon process could not be started. Aborting." I could not find any explanation for this error. I can only assume that I forgot to run something or enable an option.

Any help is welcome.
