Help with MTS Parameter - mts_listener_address

Every time I start up the tns listener process, it will hang unless its started with nohup. The particular box is an AIX/Oracle 7.3.3 server. I'm trying to isolate this problem and I think it may result from an incorrect value for the "mts_listener_address" in the init<sid>.ora file. Each time the tns listener process is started it kicks out a trace file citing an invalid listener address. I'm wondering if this nohup problem is related to the fact that I have two entries for "mts_listener_address". So my questions are:

1.) Do I need one entry for each protocol (ie. IPC, TCP) for "mts_listener_address"?

2.) And what is the correct format for the string? ie.) (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=<P>) ... etc.

Thanks,
