With Sun latest deal on Linux and all the leading database vendors jumping on the Linux bandwagon, it should tell you something. If it doesn't, well...

If you're Microsoft yes. Why? Because of all the other stuff that you bundle with the OS needs to be funded. Or do you -really- think that IE4 is really free? Or do you really think that Backoffice is just cheap?
Linux is not the only , or first, or last, software product that proves that the GNU licencibg method works.

That's not Linux aim at the moment. Linux is aimed at the Windows-NT server/ SCO-Unix market and not the Win95/98 desktop market. At least not for now. And it's making inroads into that market as Linux sales has been steadily climbing. And yes, so has Windows-NT. Both are taking market share away from the larger Unix boys in the lower end server market. But then the big Unix boys are taking market share away from the mainframe guys.
So, whether or not Linux is known to the masses is totally irrelevant. Who are one of the major driving forces in any company with regards to computer technology strategy? The people in IT or IS. They are the ones that are being convince (converted? ;-) that Linux is a viable and cheaper alternative to Windows-NT.

Not sure what tree you fell out off but I fail to understand what on earth you're on about. Oracle and Linux ARE NOT END-USER MARKET PRODUCTS.
In case you fail to understand that, I'll write it more slowly:
O r a c l e a n d L i n u x a r e n o t e n d u s e r m a r k e t p r o d u c t s
But then seeing you're an AOL'er (auto bans exist for AOL'ers on many technical channels on IRC), guess we'll won't beat you to death with a lead pipe. This time at least...
kind regards,
Billy
