Well.. I just installed Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux on a 486/50 with 20
meg o RAM. That's pretty minimal... But I wouldn't recommend it for
a production system. :-/
The docs for this version state that you need 80 megs of RAM and 400+ megs of disk space. (if you dl of the web, you're going to need a lot more dasd than that... a free gigabyte will work.)
BTW: My 486 screaches to a near halt when the database is started or shutdown. Seems to do fine while the db is running though.
I only have one client to support (my other PC). I havn't really worked with the system yet, so I can't comment on performace. I have connected with sqlplus, and that went quick, both on the Linux box and via an NT client.
HTH, BTW: believe it or not, it will help me. My NT client has 96megs, and gets a little bogged down running PO8 w/Oracle tools. When I was using NT WGS 7.3.2 on the 486 performance was appauling. I expect performance will be acceptable with the Linux.

I believe Wine is going to be great if it ever gets finished. . .
I believe Linux _is_ great even though it's not finished! ! !
I believe you have my address. :-)
