Verify database backups

I have a database in ARCHIVELOG mode 'saved 'online' every evening except Sunday (offline backup). At the time of offline backup, I execute DBVERIFY utility and I verify if there are pages " Marked Corrupt " for each datafile. If there is not, and as I have many redo archiving files, I destroy all archiving files before last but one off-line backup (I keep archiving files since the last 7 days old).
Is there a good method?
If not, how can I see that a backup is correctly executed ? Regards,

       Thierry
