Ok, this needs clarifying :

Oracle8i is a trade name, in other words it is the NAME the next revision will go under. The i has been included to make customers (us) aware that this revision is focused on the Internet. Oracle8i includes many feature that would normally go into the next major release (say Oracle9), I suspect we will see the first production versions : Oracle8i Release 8.1.x.x.x.

In respect to training, you would be well advised to get trained in Oracle8 as many of the new features built on the existing Oracle8 features and if you want to be prepared for Oracle8i the JAVA/CORBA training is what you need.

Developer / Designer / Apps.... will all work with Oracle8i some time after it goes production.

David Russell
