simple viewing software

We need to test that an application that writes into an
Oracle database does it right, ie we need some very
simple software that opens some sort of spreadsheet
view onto a table and lets us view the data.
Oracle has recommended Developer, but it is too expensive 
and does way too much for what we need (plus we don't
have time to configure anything). Any ideas (eg third
party tools?)

ps our platform for server and client is SGI.
