Hi, I am new to Oracle DBMA. Right now am just installing Oracle 7.3.4 on our Ultra 1 station running Solaris 2.6. Probably, withing few months, we will be upgrading to Oracle v8.x and deploying a large DB application.

I would appreciate any suggestions for a new learning Oracle administrator ( like best books, software archives, planning conciderations, etc.).

I have some experience in Solaris administration and couple of cources in DBA development usin gOracle and PL/SQL.

One big question that I have after reading a few threads about backing up and recovery of on-line DB: What are good utilities? I realize that I need an intermediate application between on-line DB and a UNIX dump/recovery utility.

Any suggestions and leads would be greatly appreciated. Please copy me with e-mail at zlotchen_at_utk.edu.

David.
