Oracle error ORA 3113 end-of-file on communication channel

Currently, we are running Oracle 7.1.6.2.0 and Oracle 7.3.4.0.0 on a Dec Alpha with Digital UNIX V4.0D.

We use such clients as VB, Forms, MS-Access and so on. All of this clients works fine.

But we use also one GUPTA application wich receive sometimes a ORA 3113
"end-of-file on communication channel" error.

I've traced the error at the client side. All TNS errors say that
"Partner has unexpectedly gone away".

The error occured not at start time. The error occured after the application run few hours.

Also i believe that the tnsnames.ora is ok.

All suggestions most welcome.
