Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Re: Oracle changes for changed host name (urgent)
Actually I just did this, and I did not reinstall the Oracle database.
I keep the old hostname as an internal hostname of the machine
and set the alias to the new hostname, which corresponds
to the dns record.
Also I changed IP, and, again, it works fine.
You would need to edit files "hosts" and "networks" in /etc/inet directory and "hostname.<...>" and "defaultrouter" in /etc directory. Also you may need to edit /etc/resolv.conf to use different dns server. If you are using nis or nis+, you may need a lot more configuration changes.
The bottom line: you don't need to reinstall the database server. Nor any Oracle configuration files. (provided you still keep the old hostname internally).
Misha.
