Just breifly, here's my understanding...

    Required for Oracle Enterprise manager to do job scheduling.

    Used with Oracle Names Server. A client machine starts this to     discover existing Oracle servers on the network in real time (ie     without a tnsnames.ora file.

> . OracleConTextService80

    Separate option. Enables text queries through SQL & PL/SQL.

> . OracleDataGatherer

    Optional. Used by Enterprise Manager for performance stats.

> . OracleExtprocAgent

    Enables external procedure callouts from within PLSQL using threads.

> . OracleNamesService

    Naming service to globally manage db names and address resolution.

> . OracleNamesService80

    Naming service to globally manage db names and address resolution.
