I think you are trying to install the Pro*C (Pre-compiler utility) with the 8.0.4 database server. When you do so, the MAKEFILE try to use the C compiler.
If you are not installing Pro*C product along with the 8.0.4 Enterprise database server, then the LD and assembler (ASM) is used to link the executables.
Eventhough I have not tried on the Solaris 2.6 but I tried installing 8.0.4 Enterprise Database server on the Solaris 2.5.1. It installed okay.

I installed the 8.0.4 on Sun Solaris 2.5.1
