I am also working with mixed Oracle versions V7.1 on the main server and V7.3 (PO7) as snapshot clients. Refresh is somewhat erratic but I found using SNAPSHOT logs allows the fast refresh to work well. I'd be interested to hear, if V7.3 makes a big difference in reliability.
